Hi, I am Achal Vyas with a Master’s degree in Robotics from the University of Maryland.  I would introduce myself as a self-motivated Robotics, Software & Design Engineer with transferable & valuable skills forged through 3+ years of work experience & 4+ years of implementing versatile technical projects.

Proficient in design development & efficiency improvement by incorporating new technologies. Experience in software development, designing robotic system modifications & resolving technical issues by implementing Lean Methodology in professional settings. Developed advanced technical skills in ROS, positioning and navigation algorithms, Sensor Fusion, Computer Vision, & Sensor Integration through a broad range of project and professional experience.

Recently led my autonomy and control team to 3rd position in USA’s most prestigious autonomous drone competition hosted by the US Army. My flexibility and adaptability allow me to embrace change and drive productivity as an independent engineer and team leader. The ability to excel in rapidly evolving environments by focusing on simple and effective communication keeps me productive.

College Park, Maryland Research Assistant – Lead control and autonomy

  1. Top 3 finalists out of all USA universities at VFS autonomous drone competition hosted by US army.
  2. Developed positioning and navigation algorithms for autonomous drones.
  3. Innovated sensor fusion of GNSS and VIO.
  4. Integrated positioning, perception, and planning system for highly efficient object detection, avoidance, SLAM, and impressive endurance of 18 minutes for a 2 lb payload.

  1. Designed  a delivery robot in Fusion 360, equipped sensors, controllers and simulated in Gazebo.
  2. Developed Intel RealSense support and automatic port identification function in Raspberry PI.
  3. Eased up the installation of navigation software on Linux by packaging and publishing on the cloud. Automated the file editing process in the ROS simulation packages using bash scripts.
